The Memoirs of a Revolutionary Architect
Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky (1897–2000) was one of the first women to study architecture in Austria and remains one of the best-known and most influential architects of her generation. The Frankfurt Kitchen brought her international fame, while her irrepressible zest for life ensured that even on her 100th birthday she could still take to the dance floor for a lively waltz with the Mayor of Vienna. In these autobiographical memoirs, she offers highly personal portraits of well-known contemporaries such as Otto Neurath, Josef Frank, and Adolf Loos, explains what was truly revolutionary about the Frankfurt Kitchen, and recounts that she wanted to become an architect in order to improve the quality of life of her fellow human beings.
