Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky Walks

Guided architectural tours by Felicitas Konecny as part of the "Vienna Walks" programme

Already confronted with the issue of "workers' housing" as a student, the architect Margarete Lihotzky (1897-2000) soon excelled with well thought-out solutions to the housing crisis. Social commitment, rational analysis and high-quality design characterise her work. She worked with Adolf Loos on the Friedensstadt project (1921). When Josef Frank invited her to plan terraced houses for the Werkbund Estate (1932), she was working on the City of Frankfurt's building programme as an expert in "typification in housing".
