“Walls That Tell Stories” at the Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky Centre

Christine Zwingl, architect and expert on Schütte-Lihotzky, will offer insights into the history and particular features of the site. The focus will be both on the apartment itself and on the diverse work of Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky as an architect, feminist and peace activist.

This will be followed by a musical performance by Avin Ahmadi. The Vienna-based oud player, vocalist and composer, originally from Iran, engages in a dialogue with the spaces through her work. Her distinctive musical language combines Persian traditions with jazz influences and her own compositions. New narratives emerge, weaving the history of the site together with contemporary forms of musical expression.

Feminism, peace activism, and the themes of returning home and finding a sense of belonging form the connecting thread of the event. Between historical interpretation and contemporary music, a dialogue between past and present unfolds, connecting Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky’s legacy with Avin Ahmadi’s artistic exploration.

About the artist/project: 

Vienna-based Iranian oud player, vocalist, and improviser Avin Ahmadi, born in 2004, grew up with an instrument that is often underestimated and narrowly defined. She challenges its inherited limitations and explores paths that have not been taken before.
With this approach, she has developed a clearly recognizable and personal style in both singing and playing the oud, intertwining the two. Above all, she is a storyteller through sound.
Her solo project, “Qayeq”, presents a distinctive intercultural music shaped by Persian and jazz influences, blending original compositions with selected traditional Persian soundscapes.
