Otto-Haas-Hof social housing complex, 1925; Globus-Verlag office block, 1956; Kapaunplatz nursery, 1952. These diverse projects illustrate the architect’s professional development through her international work in Frankfurt, the Soviet Union, Paris, Istanbul and Sofia, as well as the influence of political circumstances on her work. Social commitment, rational analysis and high-quality design remain the constants of her architecture; Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky (1897–2000) only received public recognition again in her later years as a ‘contemporary witness to a century’.
