Confronted with the issue of "workers' housing" as a student, the architect Margarete Lihotzky (1897-2000) soon distinguished herself with well thought-out solutions to the housing crisis. Social commitment, rational analysis and high-quality design characterise her work. She worked with Adolf Loos on the Friedensstadt project (1921). When Josef Frank invites her to plan terraced houses for the Werkbund Estate (1932), she is working as an expert for "typification in housing" on the building programme of the City of Frankfurt.
