The architect Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky (1897-2000) was born and grew up in Vienna's 5th district. During her early professional career, she lived in her parents' apartment in Hamburgerstraße. Despite working abroad for several years, she always returned to Vienna-Margareten. She spent four fifths of her almost 103-year life here. In 1970, she moved into the apartment she had furnished herself in Franzensgasse - her refuge for the last thirty years of her life.
