This project aims to raise the profile of Austrian women pioneers in architecture. In 2019, the Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky Room presented an exhibition to mark the 100th anniversary of the admission of women to study at technical universities in Austria in 1919. For this exhibition, five female architects were selected with their different paths of entry into the architectural profession at the beginning of the 20th century.  The women, born in the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, were pioneers who dared something new, who wanted to achieve a profession that their surroundings, families and the society they lived in did not trust them with. These women had to walk a path that was still untrodden and new.

Introduced are:
Ella Briggs-Baumfeld, Friedl Dicker-Brandeis, Helene Roth, Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky, Liane Zimbler.

Additionally, information is provided on the architectural education centres and on the history of the Volkshaus Klagenfurt. Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky planned the building for the Kärntner Volksverlag, which was opened in 1950. This section will be supplemented for the exhibition in Klagenfurt.
