Edith Matzalik: New Traces of a Viennese Architect

Presentation of the findings from the ‘Architektur Pionierinnen’ research project at the MSL Centre

Edith Matzalik (1903–1968), a Viennese architect and graphic designer, is one of those women whose work has long been forgotten.
The MSL Centre is now dedicating a special evening to her.

Since October 2024, Miriam Thöni, a member of the research team at the MSL Centre, has been working on cataloguing and documenting the estate. Working closely with Doris Hauberger, who is closely involved with her great-aunt’s (Matzalik) estate, all the material was first sorted through and salvaged at the architect’s former home in the Wasserturmsiedlung before being transferred to the MSL Centre. There, the extensive estate has since been fully digitised and documented.

On June 18th, we presented the findings of this research project – and invited you to gain an insight into the life and work of a rediscovered pioneer of Austrian architecture.
